10 Steps to a Stronger Relationship with God in 2025

10 Steps to a Stronger Relationship with God in 2025

There’s something about stepping into a new year that makes us want to hit refresh on our lives. We set goals to get in shape, stack our money, and level up our careers—but what about our faith? In 2025, let’s make God our priority just like we do everything else.

Whether you’re deep in your faith or trying to find your way back, this is your year to reconnect, grow, and walk in obedience. I want to see you blessed, at peace, and thriving—because when your cup is full of God’s provision, you overflow into the lives of others. So, let’s get into these 10 ways to grow spiritually this year.

1. Start with Surrender

We can’t do this life alone and we weren’t designed to. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our understanding. That means letting go of control and inviting God into every decision—even the ones that seem small. He wants the best for you so trust where He leads you. Instead of stressing, stop and ask God, “‘What do YOU want me to do?”’ Trust me, when you put it in His hands, you’ll see things shift in your life.

2. Talk to God Every Day

Listen, prayer isn’t just for when you need a breakthrough—it’s a conversation. God wants to hear from you every day, about everything. Philippians 4:6 reminds us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

So instead of venting on social media or spiraling in your thoughts, take it to God first. And then? Be still. Listen. He actually wants to speak to you, but sometimes we’re so busy in ruminating thoughts we don’t even hear Him.

3. Read Your Bible Like Your Life Depends on It

Because honestly, it does. Psalm 119:105 says His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. This year, go deeper than just the feel-good verses. Study books that will  make you feel uncomfortable and help you grow spiritually.

💡 Pro Tip: And if you struggle with consistency, grab one of our journals to help you track what God is teaching you!

4. Worship Is a Lifestyle

Worship is more than music—it’s a lifestyle. Psalm 100:2 says to worship the Lord with gladness. Worship isn’t just about singing songs on Sunday; it’s about how we live our lives every single day. Whether you’re at work, serving in your community, holding a conversation with a stranger, or simply thanking God for another day, worship should be woven into every moment of your life.

Jesus should be seen in how we think of ourselves, how we treat others—whether we know them or not—and how we serve. Worship is reflected in our kindness, our patience, and our willingness to extend grace. When we choose love, humility, and faithfulness in our daily interactions, we are glorifying God in ways that reach far beyond a church building.

But worship is also spiritual warfare. When life feels overwhelming, when the weight of trials presses in, praise is your weapon. Lifting up the name of Jesus in the middle of your struggles confuses the enemy. Darkness cannot stand where worship is present. Next time life tries you? Turn up your worship music, declare God’s goodness, and watch Him move in your situation. Worship shifts atmospheres, breaks chains, and reminds us that God is always in control.

5. Hide God’s Word in Your Heart

Psalm 119:11 says, I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. God’s Word isn’t just something to skim through—it’s our foundation, our anchor, our shield. In a world full of distractions, we need His truth stored deep in our hearts so we can stand firm when life shakes us.

This year, don’t just read scripture—absorb it, live it, breathe it. Write it down, speak it over yourself, make it your phone wallpaper, and let it take root in your spirit. When His Word is in you, fear can’t consume you, doubt can’t shake you, and the enemy can’t deceive you. You’ll be unshakable.

If you’re ready to take your spiritual walk to another level, start memorizing scripture with intention. Meditate on it throughout the day, declare it over your circumstances, and let it transform the way you think, speak, and live.

God’s Word is your weapon—carry it with you everywhere.

6. Start Your Day with Gratitude

Gratitude isn’t just something we talk about—it’s a mindset we live in. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” That means even on the hard days, even when things don’t go our way, there’s always a reason to praise Him.

Start your morning with thanksgiving on your lips and joy in your heart. Before you check your phone or get caught up in the day, take a moment to reflect. Write down three things you’re grateful for—big or small. Thank Him for breath in your lungs, for lessons in the struggle, for His constant presence.

Gratitude isn’t about ignoring the challenges—it’s about shifting your focus to God’s goodness in the midst of them. When we choose gratitude, our hearts become lighter, our faith becomes stronger, and our eyes stay fixed on His promises. So wake up and give thanks. God is always worthy of it.

7. Fast with Purpose

Fasting isn’t about deprivation—it’s about making room for more of God. Matthew 6:16-18 reminds us that fasting is a sacred act of devotion, drawing us closer to His presence. It’s not just about giving something up; it’s about realigning our hearts with Him.

Maybe it’s a social media detox, a Daniel fast, or stepping away from distractions that pull your focus. Whatever it is, let that space be filled with prayer, worship, and time in the Word. When we quiet the noise around us, we can hear God’s voice more clearly.

Fasting teaches us discipline, strengthens our faith, and deepens our dependence on God. It’s a powerful reset—not just physically, but spiritually.

If you’ve been searching for clarity, breakthrough, or deeper intimacy with God, this is your invitation. Step into a fast with purpose, expecting God to move. He always speaks, but fasting allows us to truly listen.

8. Serve Others with a Joyful Heart

Serving isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are called to be. Galatians 5:13 reminds us, Serve one another humbly in love. True service flows from a heart that’s overflowing with God’s love, not from obligation or expectation.

When we serve with joy, we reflect the hands and feet of Jesus. Whether it’s volunteering, mentoring, or simply showing up for the people God has placed in your life, every act of service is an opportunity to be a light.

Let this be the year you serve from a place of gratitude, not guilt. Look for ways to pour into others—not because you have to, but because you get to. Speak life over your friends, extend kindness to a stranger, and give without expecting anything in return. When we serve with joy, we invite God’s presence into every act of love.

9. Keep Showing Up

Some days, your faith will feel unshakable. Other days, it’ll feel like a fight just to pray. But no matter how you feel, keep showing up. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.

God isn’t asking for perfection—He’s asking for consistency. Even when you feel distant, even when you don’t have the words, He is still near. The key is not in having it all together, but in continuing to seek Him, even in the struggle.

If you fall, get back up. If you miss a day, start again tomorrow. This walk is about progress, not perfection. Every prayer, every step of faith, every moment spent in His presence matters. Keep showing up—God will meet you right where you are.

10. Find Your Faith Tribe

Community is a blessing that strengthens our walk with God. Hebrews 10:25 reminds us, Do not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another. We weren’t meant to do this faith journey alone—God designed us for connection, for support, and for growth in fellowship.

When you surround yourself with a faith-filled community, you’re stepping into a space of love, accountability, and encouragement. The right people will lift you up in prayer, challenge you to stay rooted in God’s Word, and remind you of His promises when life feels heavy.

If you’ve been walking this road alone, this is your sign to find your people—those who will pour into you just as much as you pour into them.
